Workplans and working alone

Further information

Safety policies relating to work plans and working alone.

Work plans

Work plans are required prior to working after hours where the nature of the work or work area has potential hazards. On occasion, staff and students may require to work outside of these hours and in this case the following UWA and the School requirement applies:

  1. When the proposed work or the work area have potential hazards, a work plan for after hours work must be submitted to the School Safety Officer and approved by the individual’s supervisor and the Head of School.

Work plans provide inspectors, management and safety personnel with a record that after hours safety procedures have been followed and work does not deviate from the approved plan.

After hours work that extends over long periods of time requires that work plans are regularly reviewed to insure that any work changes have been incorporated and approved.

Working after hours

Normal working hours are defined as the period 9 am to 5 pm Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays. On occasion, staff and students may require to work outside of these hours and in this situation, UWA and the School has special requirements:

  1. No work is permitted with hydrofluoric acid outside of normal working hours.
  2. All individuals working outside of normal working hours require the approval of their supervisor.
  3. In cases where the nature of the work or work area has potential hazards, a work plan (see Work Plan Policy) for after hours work must be submitted to the School Safety Officer and approved by the individual’s supervisor and the Head of School.
  4. When hazards are present an individual may not work alone; another person needs to available in the same section or area and make contact at regular intervals.
  5. Any individual working outside of normal working hours needs to have a clear understanding of the  Emergency Evacuation Procedures and comply with these procedures.
