Roles and responsibilities of School safety personnel. 

Safety personnel

  • Head of School, Professor Brett Kirk, (+61 8) 6488 1848
    Ultimate responsibility for safety and health in the School.
  • Chair of the School Safety Committee, Tim Sercombe, (+61 8) 6488 3124
    Has delegated decision making power in critical circumstances
  • School Safety Officer, Rob Greenhalgh, (+61 8) 6488 7099
    Advises the School on all aspects of Safety and Health, carries out monthly safety audits, assists in the development of policies and safety systems.
  • School Safety Representative, Malcolm Stafford, (+61 8) 6488 7097
    Represents the interests of employees in all areas of safety and health, identifies workplace hazards, participates in safety audits, safety coordinator for UWA Motorsport.
  • School Chief Fire Warden, Sabbia Tilli, (+61 8) 6488 3058
    Reports to the Head of School at least annually on all issues of fire and emergency response, documents and implement an emergency response plan for key identified risks, organises warden training and ensures adequate area coverage throughout the year with provision for long-term sickness and leave.
  • School First-aid Co-ordinator, Rosalba Di Giovanni (+61 8) 6488 7202
    Reports to the Head of School at least annually on all First-aid matters, co-ordinates the activities of all First-aid Officers to ensure that first aid stocks are maintained, immunisation and retraining of First-aid Officers and first aid coverage is provided.
  • School Radiation Safety Officer, Adrian Keating, (+61 8) 6488 3098
    Reports to the Head of School at least annually on all aspects of Laser Safety, carries out laser safety audits and organises laser safety training.
  • School Biological Safety Officer, Rob Greenhalgh, (+61 8) 6488 7099
    Reports to the Head of School at least annually on all aspects of Biological Safety, carries out biological safety training and ensures that the PC2 Laboratory is operating to the required standard through inspections and consultation.
  • School Poisons Permit Holder, Lizhen Gao, (+61 8) 6488 4782

Additionally the School has Principle Laboratory and Workshop Supervisors that assume responsibility for the areas under their control, conduct regular hazard/risk assessments, identify and manage all safety hazards and report to the Head of School at least annually.

These supervisors also assume responsibility for risk assessment of all manual handling hazards and implement strategies to reduce the level of risk in their area.
