This workshop is aimed at providing state-of-the-art practice in flow assurance for hydrates, one of the largest problems in offshore production.

The workshop will be valuable to individuals involved in the field of flow assurance by providing understanding and knowledge of gas hydrates, including hands-on experience for the engineer in using tools to evaluate gas hydrates formation and dissociation.

Participants should possess a basic understanding of gas and oil production.

Each attendee will receive a CD and hardcopy of the course material, including a copy of the recent book Natural Gas Hydrates in Flow Assurance edited and authored by E. D. Sloan, C. A. Koh, and A. K. Sum.

Please note: each attendee should bring a laptop with Windows OS on which their organisation’s IT support has enabled installation of two computer programs (CSMGem and CSMPlug) from a CD or USB flash drive. Practice with these two programs will be essential to effectively carry the workshop knowledge forward.

Workshop instructor

Dr Amedu K. Sum
Dr. Amedu K. Sum
(Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department and co-director of the Center for Hydrate Research and at the Colorado School of Mines, USA, where he leads a group of over 30 researchers focusing on gas hydrates.

The research program that Dr. Sum co-leads, along with Drs. E. Dendy Sloan and Carolyn A. Koh, has been established over 30 years and currently supports a research portfolio of over US$1.6M, working mainly in the areas of hydrates in flow assurance, science, and nature. Dr. Sum has been working with hydrate research for 20 years, and he has over 70 publications, including a recent book on “Natural Gas Hydrates in Flow Assurance”, which he co-edited and co-authored.
