High Standards

Winthrop HallThe degree programs of the School of Mechanical Engineering at UWA are known to be hard by international standards. The courses are designed to produce graduates who are ready to start life as professional Engineers.

The degree programs include technical studies such as

  • Mechanics: statics and dynamics
  • Electronics, particularly for the Mechatronics degree
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Computer programming
  • Engineering design including hands-on training in manufacturing techniques

There are also important course components to train students in

  • Ethical responsibilities
  • Communication skills
  • Project management and teamwork

In the final year of the degree programs all students undertake a major project which can lead to an degree with honours. The quality of work expected in these projects is high, equivalent to Masters level at many American universties.
