EQUIPMENT

Personal Protective Equipment

The main focus of our work between May 1997 and December 1998 was personal protective equipment and most of the funding was supplied by the US Department of Defense. Our approach starts with an analysis of accident data and so far we have focused on Afghanistan demining operations. Here the main threat is PMN-1 blast mines, and 80% of casualties arise from prodding accidents.

Trials in Pakistan by HARC showed that the deminers find helmets and aprons very comfortable.

Light Weight Helmets and Visors - see also Air Cooled Helmets. Visors can come with Scratch Protection
