PMN-2 MINE

Photographs of PMN-2 mine

This mine was kindly supplied by CMAC - the principal demining organisation in Cambodia. The explosive components have all been removed. Click the images for full-size originals (about 300-400 kb each). This mine is one of the most common, particularly in Cambodia.

Assembled mine

Top ring has been removed, followed by top plate with X cutout and the rubber cap. Small metal components in the pressure plate and cover (holding the straps) are clearly visible.

Mine partly dismantled showing steel springs, striker, spring, safety pin, safety pin sleeve etc.

The vertical slider/plunger gate has been removed to show the two springs, and between them, the small copper cartridge in the slider which is the initiator. The striker pin pierces this and the flame passes through a hole (invisible) to the detonator housing beyond. The large hollow space on the left holds the main explosive charge.

Underside of mine, showing the detonator container with cap removed. The cap was made by us from OVC as the original was missing. Inside we placed a shell of thick Aluminium foil to represent the detonator housing. The original detonator was removed, of course, for safety.
