Engineering Asset Management (EAM) is an interdisciplinary field that combines the technical issues of asset reliability, safety and performance with financial and managerial skills.

The emphasis of AM is on achieving sustainable organisational outcomes and competitive advantage by applying holistic, systematic and risk-based processes to decisions concerning the physical assets of an organisation. Physical assets include buildings and fixed plant, mobile equipment and civil, electrical and mechanical infrastructure.

Asset management activities at UWA are coordinated by the EAM Discipline Group.

Program outline

Our postgraduate degree program is targeted at experienced engineers and managers in operational, maintenance, engineering and asset management roles.

Participants engage in a balanced interdisciplinary program of asset management, reliability and business units with a focus on practical applications and the challenges faced by todays organisations.

We place particular emphasis on the development of technical skills, decision-making, program implementation, change-management and communication.

Questions to consider

If you are unsure whether this program is relevant to your future development, please ask yourself the following questions.

  • Are you an engineer or manager looking to further develop your technical, management and leadership skills?
  • Do you wish to acquire the skills to become more involved in developing robust, business-aligned asset management plans and strategies?
  • Are you involved in managing operational improvement programs?
  • Do you wish to further develop your skills in risk and reliability engineering?
  • Do you need to acquire the commercial acumen to more effectively communicate with senior management?

If so, then this postgraduate program will be suitable for you. If the full program is not appropriate, it is possible to take certain units for Professional Development.

The Graduate Diploma in Engineering Asset Management comprises units to a total value of 36 points. The core units are:

Please note that the units ASST8422 and ASST8423 are in intensive mode only (three contact periods of three, three and two days)

Students must also complete one of:

Units are scheduled to accommodate part-time study, recognising the time constraints of working professionals.

Graduate Diploma students study the first three units in a Saturday Semester program before transitioning to the engineering units, which are taught in the evenings on a trimester basis, or in block mode.

While the course uses the latest web-based technology to provide flexibility and support, there is a strong emphasis on student engagement with the academics, their peers, and industry and academic guest speakers. The use of case studies and work-related assignments ensures relevance to the work environment.
