Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics Engineering), 2005
Graduate Engineer, Monadelphous, Western Australia
Being unsure the discipline of engineering in which I wanted to specialise, I chose to study at UWA because of the common first year the University offers.
Finding out that I enjoyed pretty much all the units from physics to electrical engineering, I decided that Mechatronics Engineering was the course for me.
After graduation, I wasn’t ready to commit to a graduate program that many major engineering companies offer. I actually started my ‘career’ as a receptionist in a construction company to save up for travel. Returning from travel, I worked in an offshore company as a contracts engineer. I realised that I enjoyed working with the project manager rather than the commercial manager and decided to move back into construction.
My current position as a graduate engineer in Monadelphous exposes me to many of the things that I enjoyed in my previous jobs. After spending a year in the oil and gas estimating department tendering for new jobs for the business, I am extremely lucky to be working on a project which was one of the tenders I worked on! There are still so many things for me to learn and I work with great team of people, who are really supportive
Science at UWA helped mould me my engineering course into something that really suited me. Many of my electives were computer science units which became a large part of my final year project. No one expects you to know exactly what you want out of your time at university before you get there and there are so many options to make your course into something you really enjoy.
